Softball Bats - DeMarini Vendetta DXVCF-FP

We have received some questions regarding the legality of the DeMarini Vendetta DXVCF-FP. This particular bat has “rails” (manufacturer’s term) on the shaft – meaning, there are four flat sides, giving almost a rounded-corner, square appearance to the shaft. The barrel (hitting surface) is round and the bat does bear the ASA Bat Performance Standard certified mark.

Since the bat does meet the performance standard (bears the appropriate ASA mark) and meets the “spirit” of NFHS Rule 1-5-1, which requires the bat to be “a smooth cylinder;” the bat is interpreted as legal. However, the NFHS Softball Rules Committee will review this interpretation, the bat in question and any other comparable bats, at its annual rules meeting in June.

ASA’s rule is similar to the NFHS rule and ASA has interpreted this bat to be legal as well. It is also legal per NCAA rules.

I hope this addresses any questions you’ve received or may receive in the future. As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
