2012-2013 Track and Field Official's Recertification Information
2012-2013 Track and Field
Hello Coaches!
I can see the 2013 Track and Field season from here. It will not be long before we will all be back at it, helping our young people accomplish their goals in Track and Field.
I am sending you information regarding the Recertification (see explanation below) of our present officials and past officials who may want to get back into officiating. If you have someone who has been an official who lives in your school district, please get word to them about the Chico Clinic on January 26th or any of the other clinics on the schedule.
Also, if you know someone who may be interested in becoming an official, please have them contact me or Chuck Sheley cnkgsheley@earthlink.net
My contact information is below.
Attached is a schedule of the clinics which will be offered this year and their locations. There is also a form for renewing their USATF annual membership.
Best regards,
Dennis Boyle

On January 26 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in Chico at Pleasant Valley High School, a Recertification clinic will be held for those who are now presently certified officials or for those whose certification has lapsed but wish to get back into officiating as a certified official. PLEASE NOTE: an earlier email from Jim Hume, our Certification Chair, stated that the Chico clinic would be held on January 19 which was incorrect. Also the notification listed Chico High School as the location. That is also incorrect. It will be held at Pleasant Valley High School.
In order to sign up for the clinics and order the books that you will need as an official for the coming year, you will need to click on the following website:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?
At this time, the Pacific Association is requiring no deposit with your Recertification. Cost is usually between $10 to $20 for the clinic plus the cost of the books that you will need as an official.
There are other locations where you can take your Recertification in case the January 26th date does not work out for you. One location will be American River College on January 12, with another to be held on the UC Davis campus on February 2.
USATF Membership is due each year about this time of the year. Cost is $30.00 and with a credit card, you may renew on-line on the following website:
http://www.pausatf.org/data/membership.html
If you would rather send them a check, attached is a form for you to fill out and mail in. Use either format to download the application.
ENCOURAGING NEW PEOPLE TO BECOME CERTIFIED:
Interested persons who would like to become officials will have an opportunity to take a clinic (Introduction to Track and Field Officiating) at the same time you will be taking your Recertification Clinic. If you know anyone who be interested in finding out more about becoming an official, please encourage them. Have them contact either Chuck Sheley cnkgsheley@earthlink.net or myself dkboyle@frontiernet.net . We are awaiting instructions on how to sign up for the Introduction Clinics - the locations have been announced and are on the attached schedule of Clinics.
RECERTIFICATION – What is it?
Every four years, after the conclusion of the Summer Olympics, ALL active and certified officials in the nation must get together and recertify themselves for another four year period, often referred to as the Period of the Olympiad. Some of you became officials this last year, but you will have to go through this year’s recertification process with those who certified two, three or four years ago. Sometimes this becomes confusing, so that is why I am writing this email. You will not need to take another recertification test or clinic until the conclusion of the 2016 Summer Olympics.
ADVANCEMENT – How can I do it?
If you wish to advance your standing in the USATF, that is, become a National or Master Official, you will need to take advanced clinics. This action usually takes place during the January/February Clinics but can also occur during the year. A request is made to the Certification Chair, presently Jim Hume. The process may require testing, which is open-booked and is usually completed at home. The test is then brought with you to a clinic which spends a period of time in a class setting discussing the test with others who are also wishing to advance, as well. Testing is required along with a certain level of experience as an official which is accomplished by the aspiring official on the track and/or field.
